Snickerdoodle Cookies

If you love plain cookies this recipe is great for you! I know my mother hates any kinda cookie with cinnamon or chocolate chips. So you can make these with or without the spices for the picky cookie eaters!

This recipe yields about 24 cookies. (you can double it to make more)

  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1-1/3 cups  all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • Cream together butter, shortening, 3/4 cup of sugar, egg and the vanilla.
  • Blend in the flour, cream of tartar, (if you don't have any it's really not that big of a deal) soda and salt. Shape dough into balls.
  • Mix the 1 tablespoon sugar and the cinnamon. Roll the balls in the mixture. Place about 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets.
  • Bake 8 to 10 minutes remove immediately from baking sheets because they will get too hard and stick.

  • You can skip the last step in mixing the balls into the sugar and cinnamon if you just want to make plain cookies! Enjoy!
